出で直なおし

starting over; fresh start; redoing

Used when restarting something from the beginning, often after a failure or unsatisfactory attempt. Can be used as a noun or with する.

• 計けい画かくが失しっ敗ぱいしたので、出で直なおしだ。

  The plan failed, so we have to start over.

• 最さい初しょから出で直なおしするしかない。

  We have no choice but to start again from scratch.

Used when visiting or calling on someone again, often after an unsuccessful first attempt or when the person was absent. Less common than sense 1.

• 先せん方ぽうは不ふ在ざいだったので、明日あす出で直なおしします。

  The person was out, so I'll call again tomorrow.
