forward reasoning
A computing term for reasoning from known facts to conclusions, often used in AI and logic systems.
In expert systems, forward reasoning is used to derive conclusions from data.
Backward reasoning, which starts from a goal and works backward to find supporting facts, in contrast to forward reasoning.
Compound of 前向き (forward-looking) and 推論 (reasoning, inference). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the term is a technical calque from English 'forward reasoning'.
