Archaic term for the hilt or grip of a sword. In modern Japanese, 柄 (つか) is the standard word.

• 古こ文ぶん書しょには「剣たか柄び」の語ごが見みられるが、現げん代だいでは「つか」と言いう。

  The word 剣柄 appears in old documents, but nowadays we say つか.
