Refers to people or things of the same category. When used for people, it often carries a negative connotation of being in the same undesirable group, like accomplices or birds of a feather. The 'no-adjective' use describes something as being of the same kind.
He was also arrested for a similar type of crime.

- 同類扱いするto treat someone as belonging to the same (bad) group
It's frustrating to be treated as part of the same group when I did nothing wrong.
