closing recital transferring merit
A Buddhist liturgical text recited at the end of a service to transfer the accumulated merit to a buddha, a bodhisattva, or the deceased.
At the end of the memorial service, the closing recital transferring merit is chanted.
From 回向 (えこう, 'transfer of merit') + 文 (もん, 'text'). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the spelling is conventionally associated with the Buddhist concept of merit transference.
