Historical title for a senior court official in pre-modern Japan, roughly equivalent to a high steward or grand master. Not used in modern contexts.

• 平へい安あん時じ代だいの大だい夫ぶは、朝ちょう廷ていで重じゅう要ような役やく職しょくを務つとめた。

  In the Heian period, a 大夫 served in an important post at the imperial court.

• この物もの語がたりの主しゅ人じん公こうは、若わかくして大だい夫ぶに任にんじられた。

  The protagonist of this tale was appointed 大夫 at a young age.
