bouffant cloth cap; traditional soft cap
A soft, rounded cloth cap traditionally worn by elderly people and Buddhist monks. The name comes from its resemblance to the hood of Daikokuten (大黒天), one of the Seven Lucky Gods.
In old pictures, monks wearing a bouffant cloth cap are often depicted.
My grandfather often wore a traditional soft cap on cold days.
