Noun use referring to a previously established practice or precedent. In modern Japanese, 慣例 or 先例 is often more ordinary; this use of 定例, especially with the reading じょうれい, is comparatively limited.
その手続きは定例に従って行われた。
The procedure was carried out according to established practice.
「定例に従う」は、前からの慣例や先例に従うという意味で使われる。
定例に従う is used to mean following an established custom or precedent.
