conjunction
besides; moreover; furthermore; in addition
Used to add another point or reason, often in formal or written contexts. Similar to さらに or その上, but slightly more emphatic and less common in casual speech.
この計画は費用がかかる。なおまた、時間も十分に必要だ。
This plan is expensive. Moreover, it requires a lot of time.
彼は有能な研究者であり、なおまた優れた教育者でもある。
He is a capable researcher and, furthermore, an excellent educator.
その上 is similar in meaning but slightly more conversational. なおまた is more literary.
加えて is a more straightforward 'in addition' and can be used in both formal and informal settings. なおまた carries a stronger sense of 'furthermore'.
Kanji form using 尚 and 又; rarely used in modern writing.
Alternate kanji form using 猶; even less common than 尚又.
Compound of なお (still, furthermore) and また (again, also). The combination reinforces the additive meaning.
