noun
bow (and arrow); noble's bow
Archaic term for a bow, especially one used by a noble. Not used in modern Japanese; the standard word is 弓 (ゆみ).
古い文献では、貴族の弓を「たらし」と呼ぶことがある。
In old texts, a noble's bow is sometimes called 'tarashi'.
Alternate archaic kanji form, also read たらし, with the same meaning. Extremely rare.
The historical derivation is uncertain. The reading たらし is archaic and may be related to honorific or noble terminology, but the exact origin is unclear.
