daily tear-off calendar; daily pad calendar
A calendar where each day is on a separate sheet, typically torn off or flipped. Similar to 日めくり (himekuri).

Obsolete term for the solar calendar, as opposed to the lunar calendar. Now replaced by 太陽暦 (taiyōreki).

Records state that Japan adopted the solar calendar in the Meiji period.
Compound of 日 (hi, 'day') and 暦 (koyomi, 'calendar'), with rendaku voicing of the second element. The reading ひごよみ is a straightforward combination.
