A specific cultivar of sweet, non-astringent Japanese persimmon (Diospyros kaki).
Jiro persimmons have little astringency and are sweet and easy to eat.
Named for 松本治郎吉, who discovered the original tree in nineteenth-century Shizuoka; 治郎 was later written 次郎 in the cultivar name.
