Describes a person who is patient, not easily irritated, and able to wait calmly. Often used positively, but can imply being too laid-back. Related to the expression 気が長い.

A fixed expression combining 気 (spirit, temperament) with 長い (long), literally 'long-spirited'. The attributive form 気の長い uses の to modify a noun.
