Geological term for a flat, eroded rock surface at the base of a sea cliff, formed by wave action. Also called 波食台 (はしょくだい).

Compound of 波 (wave), 食 (erode), and 棚 (shelf), literally 'wave-eroded shelf'. The reading is a straightforward combination of the on'yomi for 波食 (はしょく) and the kun'yomi for 棚 (だな).
