bamboo ash receptacle; tobacco ash container
A traditional bamboo container used to hold ash from a kiseru (Japanese pipe). Often part of a smoking set.
In my grandfather's old tobacco tray, there was a bamboo ash receptacle.
I found a small bamboo ash container at the antique market.
Compound of 灰 (hai, 'ash') and 吹き (fuki, 'blowing' or 'blow'), from the verb 吹く (fuku). The name likely refers to blowing ash into the container.
