Idiomatic expression used to strongly assert that something will not happen or will not be allowed as long as the speaker is alive. Often followed by a negative statement. The variant 目の黒いうち (めのくろいうち) is also used.

Literally 'while the eyes are black', i.e., while one is alive and can see. The exact origin is uncertain, but it is a set phrase in Japanese.
