Used when you encounter or notice something visually, often with a nuance of happening to see it rather than actively looking. Common in both casual and written Japanese.

• 街まちで偶ぐう然ぜん、昔むかしの友とも達だちを目めにした。

  I happened to see an old friend in town.

• そのニュースはテレビで初はじめて目めにした。

  I first saw that news on TV.
