Shinto festival for the temporary transfer of a shintai
A Shinto festival in which the sacred object (shintai) is moved from its main shrine to another location, often a portable shrine or a temporary site.

During the shinkōsai, the shintai is transferred to the temporary resting place.
Compound of 神幸 (shinkō, 'divine visit' or 'sacred procession') and 祭 (sai, 'festival'). The exact historical derivation is uncertain, but the term is conventionally associated with Shinto rituals involving the movement of a shintai.
