gluconeogenesis
Biochemical term for the synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate precursors, such as lactate, glycerol, and amino acids.
Gluconeogenesis occurs mainly in the liver.
During fasting, gluconeogenesis is activated.
From 糖 (sugar) + 新生 (new birth, regeneration). A calque of the English 'gluconeogenesis'.
