godan verb (-u), transitive verb
Honorific verb used when a superior or respected person gives something to the speaker or to someone of lower status. Formal and somewhat old-fashioned; in modern Japanese, くださる is more common.
神が我らに恵みを給う。
God bestows grace upon us.
陛下よりお言葉を給うた。
We received words from His Majesty.

Honorific suffix attached to the -masu stem of a verb to form a polite request or command. Archaic and literary; in modern Japanese, ~てください or ~たまえ (from 給え) are used instead. The cross-reference 給え is the imperative form.
