The higher a region's latitude is, the colder its winters become.

Usage patterns
- 緯度が高いto be at a high latitude (far from the equator)
This country is at a high latitude, so winters are very cold.
- 緯度が低いto be at a low latitude (close to the equator)
Regions close to the equator are at a low latitude.
- 〈場所〉の緯度は〈数〉度だthe latitude of a place is X degrees
Tokyo's latitude is about 35 degrees north.
