Almost exclusively used in negative sentences (e.g., 見向きもしない) to mean 'not even looking at' or 'paying no attention to'. The affirmative use is rare.

Compound of 見 (mi, 'seeing') and 向き (muki, 'direction'). The literal meaning is 'direction of looking', which developed into the idiomatic negative usage.
