fail to kill; let an enemy escape

Used in military or historical contexts when a combatant fails to finish off an opponent, allowing them to flee or survive. Modern usage is rare and mostly found in period fiction or games.

• 敵てき将しょうを討うち漏もらしてしまった。

  We failed to kill the enemy commander and let him escape.

• 深ふか追おいして討うち漏もらすなと命めいじられた。

  We were ordered not to pursue too far and let any enemies get away.
