Okuni kabuki; early form of kabuki
Historical term for the early kabuki style created by Izumo no Okuni, a shrine maiden from Izumo Taisha, and popularized in Kyoto during the early Edo period. Considered the progenitor of modern kabuki.
Okuni kabuki is said to have been started by Izumo no Okuni.
It was in the early Edo period that Okuni kabuki gained popularity in Kyoto.
