electrode
Technical term for a conductor through which electricity enters or leaves a medium. Common in physics, electronics, and battery contexts.
A battery has two electrodes: a positive and a negative electrode.
We immersed the electrodes in the solution and passed an electric current through them.
Usage patterns
- 〈物〉に電極を取り付けるto attach an electrode to something
I attached electrodes to the battery.
- 電極間に電圧をかけるto apply voltage between electrodes
We applied a high voltage between the electrodes for the experiment.
- 電極が腐食するfor an electrode to corrode
The electrode corrodes after long-term use.
