ながらに（して）While remaining in an original or accompanying state
ながらに（して） presents something as existing or happening while an original, characteristic, or accompanying state remains in effect. It is used in a limited set of established combinations rather than as a freely productive pattern.
What remains unchanged
The part before ながらに names the state that continues: a quality present from birth, a traditional character preserved over time, or an emotion accompanying an action. This is not necessarily a pair of actions happening at the same moment. For example, 生まれながらに can describe a quality that has existed from birth onward.
Characteristic combinations
These examples show the three main kinds of established combination.
彼女は生まれながらにして優れた音感を備えていた。
She had an excellent sense of pitch from birth.
Analyzeして adds no essential change in meaning; it is part of the longer form.
この店は昔ながらの製法を守っている。
This shop preserves its traditional production methods.
Analyzeながらの directly modifies the following noun.
受賞者は涙ながらに支援者への感謝を語った。
The award recipient tearfully expressed gratitude to the supporters.

Fixed forms without the final particle
Related fixed expressions sometimes appear without the final に. For example, いつもながら means “as always,” and 昔ながらの means that a traditional quality or method remains. A plain verb stem followed by ながら normally belongs to the simultaneous-action pattern, so use the established 生きながらにして when you specifically mean “while still alive” in the target family.
Not ordinary simultaneous action
Ordinary verb-stem + ながら freely links two actions performed at the same time. By contrast, ながらに belongs to restricted, state-focused combinations. For a neutral and productive way to say that something remains unchanged, use まま instead.
音楽を聴きながら、夕食を作った。
I made dinner while listening to music.
