たはいいがDid ..., but then a problem arose
たはいいが acknowledges that an action was completed or a result was achieved, then reveals an unexpected drawback. It often has the feeling of “doing that was all well and good, but...”
How the meaning unfolds
The first clause reports something that really happened and provisionally accepts it as an accomplishment. The speaker then steps back from that positive assessment and gives the complication: the result was excessive, another step was missing, the situation became inconvenient, or the outcome was disappointing. The first action does not have to have been a genuinely good decision; “all well and good” is only a temporary concession.
A completed action followed by a drawback
新しいパソコンを買ったはいいが、設定が複雑でまだ使えていない。
Buying a new computer was all well and good, but the setup is complicated and I still haven't been able to use it.
AnalyzeTypical kinds of problem
The second clause should give a real complication rather than merely changing the subject.

Analyze会議の日程を決めたのはいいが、肝心の会場を押さえていなかった。

AnalyzeChoosing among nearby contrast patterns
Basic が and けど can connect almost any contrast, whereas たはいいが specifically acknowledges a completed action before exposing its drawback. ものの is a broader, more written way to express a mismatch between facts or expectations; inside this fixed frame it can replace the final connector. By contrast, たところで normally judges in advance that an imagined action would be ineffective, rather than looking back on something already done.
