にてAt/by means of (formal)

にて formally marks the venue, setting, or medium of an action. It is a compact, written-leaning alternative to certain uses of the ordinary particle , especially in notices, invitations, and business communication.

How it is used

にて gives the sentence the compact tone of an official notice. It often follows a venue when announcing where an event will be held, or a communication medium when explaining how information will be sent or received.

Venues and communication media

These are typical formal contexts in which the particle sounds natural.

けんしゅうかいほんかんかいこうどうにてかいさいいたします。

The training session will be held in the auditorium on the second floor of the main building.

Analyze

This sounds like an event notice or formal invitation.

とうせんしゃにはメールにてれんらくいたします。

Successful applicants will be contacted by email.

Analyze

Here the particle marks the communication medium.

Why it appears in notices

The form is short but distinctly formal, so it fits institutional wording that needs to state a venue or procedure efficiently. Its presence does not automatically make every surrounding word formal, but it is commonly paired with polite or business-style expressions.

Formal notice versus ordinary conversation

For an official venue announcement, にて is natural. In an everyday conversation about where an action happens, use instead. Using the formal particle in the conversational example below would sound unnecessarily stiff.

明日あしたわせはえきまえカフェでやろう。

Let's have tomorrow's meeting at the cafe by the station.

Analyze

This is ordinary conversational location marking, not formal notice language.
