（という）ふうにIn this kind of way
（という）ふうに presents an action, explanation, arrangement, or interpretation as following a particular way or framing. It often corresponds to “in this or that kind of way” or “in such a way that.”
What the construction adds
This construction does more than quote words. It packages the preceding content as a way of acting, organizing, explaining, or viewing something. Verbs meaning “think,” “understand,” “explain,” “divide,” “arrange,” and “proceed” therefore combine with it especially naturally.
Pointing to a demonstrated way
こういうふうに資料を年代別に並べると、変化が見えやすくなります。
If you arrange the materials by period in this way, the changes become easier to see.

The wording before というふうに supplies the particular interpretation or organizing principle adopted by the following verb.

Direct content versus a way of framing
という can link quoted or explanatory content directly to a noun. By contrast, というふうに packages that content as a manner or interpretation adopted by the following verb.
会議が延期されたという連絡がありました。
We received notice that the meeting had been postponed.
