Frustrated advice or criticism
This construction suggests a desirable action while showing frustration that reality is different. Depending on the relationship and tone, it can sound like caring exasperation, criticism, or blame.
What the ending adds
The conditional part presents a course of action as desirable. Sentence-final のに adds the feeling that the obvious or preferable action is not being taken. In English, the result may sound like “Why don't you just ...?” or “You should ...,” often with an audible undertone of “but you aren't.”
From mild frustration to blame
Context and tone determine how sharp the comment feels. The first suggestion can sound concerned; the second openly criticizes the listener's behavior.
If you're that tired, why don't you go to bed early tonight?
AnalyzeThis can express concern, but it still implies that the listener is not doing the sensible thing.
Instead of doing nothing but complaining, you should do it yourself.
AnalyzeThe opening criticism makes the blaming tone unmistakable.
When it becomes a frustrated wish
If the subject cannot literally receive advice, the same shape can express an impatient wish for reality to change. The dissatisfied mismatch remains central.
I wish the rain would stop soon.
AnalyzeBecause rain cannot follow advice, this is naturally understood as a frustrated wish.
Neutral advice versus frustrated advice
Without sentence-final のに, the same conditional pattern gives more neutral advice. Add のに only when you intend to convey dissatisfaction that the person has not acted.
If you're unsure, you could ask the teacher.
AnalyzeThis is ordinary advice, without the dissatisfied aftertaste.
