なぜ・ どうして+かというと・ かといえばIntroducing a reason with a why-frame
This pattern states a claim first, briefly frames the question “why?”, and then gives the reason. It openly guides the listener or reader from a conclusion to its explanation.
Start with the point you want to explain
The usual order is conclusion first, why-frame second, and reason last. The pattern works almost like asking and immediately answering your own question, so it is especially useful when you want the explanation to feel organized and easy to follow.
From claim to reason
私は気象データを毎日確認している。なぜかというと、畑の水やりの時間を決めるためだ。
I check the weather data every day. The reason is that I need to decide when to water the fields.
AnalyzeLiterally: I check the weather data every day. As for why, it is in order to decide the time for watering the fields.
私たちは会議を午前中に開きます。どうしてかといえば、午後は参加できない人が多いからです。
We hold the meeting in the morning. That is because many people cannot attend in the afternoon.
AnalyzeHow the answer ends
The reason often ends with からだ or ためだ, because these endings clearly deliver the promised explanation. This is a strong tendency, not a mechanical rule: a full statement that plainly explains the earlier claim can also follow, and conversation may end simply with から.
Why-frame versus a direct reason clause
A direct clause ending in から normally presents the reason as part of one sentence, often before the result. The target pattern instead states the conclusion first, pauses to announce “here is why,” and then gives the explanation.
地下鉄が便利だから、この町では車を持たない人が多い。
Because the subway is convenient, many people in this town do not own cars.
AnalyzeThis is a direct reason-first sentence, not the target's conclusion-first explanation structure.
