にとって identifies the person, group, or organization whose interests or viewpoint an evaluation belongs to. It is commonly translated as “for,” “to,” or “from the standpoint of.”

Whose evaluation is it?

The part after にとって should say how something matters, feels, or is judged from the named viewpoint. Typical ideas include importance, value, benefit, difficulty, meaning, and personal experience.

わたしにとって、このまちだいふるさとです。

To me, this town is a second home.
