わけだNatural conclusion; that explains it

わけだ presents a conclusion as the natural result of facts or reasoning already established. In conversation, it often marks a moment when something suddenly makes sense: “That explains it” or “No wonder.”

From facts to a conclusion

The important feature is a visible reasoning path. First, the speaker has a fact, cause, rule, date, or figure; then わけだ presents the result as understandable or logically natural. The conclusion may be newly realized, but its basis is treated as established.

Explicitly summing up

というわけだ makes the summary especially explicit. It is useful after an explanation when you want to state exactly what the preceding information means in practical terms.

さんしゃぜんいんじゅうはっさいじょうでなければならない。つまり、じゅうななさいひとさんできないというわけだ

All participants must be at least eighteen. In other words, a seventeen-year-old cannot participate.

Analyze

Expectation versus understood conclusion

はずだ says that something is expected on the basis of knowledge, a schedule, or a plan, often before the result is confirmed. わけだ typically looks back at established facts and recognizes the explanation or consequence that follows from them.
