またalso, in addition; again

In notices and explanations, また opens a new sentence and adds one more point: "also", "in addition". In everyday talk, また is nearly always "again".

この町まちは海うみがきれいだ。また、食たべ物ものもおいしい。

The sea in this town is beautiful. The food is good, too.

again

また来きてくださいね。

Please come again.

How to form it

Sentence。また、+ one more point

It comes first in the new sentence, usually with a comma after it. The new point often has も.

What it adds: One more point of the same kind: another feature, another service, another rule.
Tone: Neutral and orderly, like "in addition".
Where you'll meet it: Notices, guides, websites, news, textbooks, business email. Out loud, in presentations and announcements.

In use

図と書しょ館かんでは本ほんを借かりることができます。また、新しん聞ぶんや雑ざっ誌しも読よめます。

You can borrow books at the library. You can also read newspapers and magazines.

この講こう座ざは初しょ心しん者しゃでも参さん加かできます。また、必ひつ要ような道どう具ぐは無む料りょうで借かりられます。

Even beginners can take part in this course. In addition, you can borrow the equipment you need free of charge.

申もうし込こみ書しょは郵ゆう送そうできます。また、窓まど口ぐちへ直ちょく接せつ持もって行いくこともできます。

You can send the application form by mail. You can also take it to the counter yourself.

Two things to know

Day to day, また is "again"

When something happens one more time, また is "again". This is the one you will say. The "also" また adds a point to the sentence before it.

また明日あしたsee you tomorrow

じゃ、また明日あした。

OK, see you tomorrow.

Or just またね, じゃ、また.

また今こん度どanother time

今日きょうは忙いそがしいので、また今こん度どにしましょう。

I'm busy today, so let's make it another time.

また + what happensagain

また雨あめが降ふってきた。

It has started raining again.

With friends it sounds like a notice

Across a table, the "also" また sounds as if you were reading out a leaflet. People say それに.

Sounds odd: この店みせ、安やすいよ。また、おいしいよ。

This place is cheap. In addition, it is good.

To a friend: それに、おいしいよ.

"Besides": a second reason for the same opinion. The everyday word.

今日きょうは疲つかれている。それに、明日あしたも早はやいから、もう帰かえるよ。

I'm tired today. Besides, I have an early start tomorrow, so I'm going home now.

"And". It can also be "and then", what happened next. The "also" また can't.

雨あめがやみました。そして、雲くもの間あいだから月つきが見みえました。

The rain stopped, and then the moon appeared between the clouds.

One kana longer and a different word: "or".
