またAlso; in addition
また introduces another fact, feature, reason, or item at roughly the same level as the preceding one. It corresponds to “also,” “in addition,” or “furthermore” and gives an explanation a clear, organized flow.
Adding a parallel point
The second point should normally stand beside the first rather than describe a later event. また is especially useful when listing comparable qualities, requirements, reasons, services, or members of a group.
この町は海がきれいだ。また、食べ物もおいしい。
This town has a beautiful sea. The food is also delicious.
AnalyzeThe two sentences give parallel positive features of the town.
Organized explanations
The connective can add either a factual description or another instruction, provided the new point is parallel to what came before.
Choosing a nearby connective
また simply adds a parallel point. そして more readily continues a sequence or narrative, while さらに often suggests moving another step forward or increasing the degree. なお introduces supplementary information rather than another main point. Do not confuse additive また with または, which offers alternatives and means “or.”
