Listing reasons and facts

adds reasons, qualities, or facts that support the same conclusion or overall description. It often suggests that the stated points are part of a longer list.

How it works

Each clause ending in contributes one relevant point. The shared conclusion often follows the list, but it can also be clear from the situation. Repeating the pattern makes the cumulative effect especially clear.

Several reasons supporting one decision

It is raining, and the wind is strong too, so I am not going out today.

Analyze

Both weather conditions support the decision not to go out.

Listing qualities and facts

does not have to introduce a direct cause. It can gather qualities or facts that build an overall evaluation.

This place is inexpensive and close to the station, so I come here often.

Analyze

Leaving the list open

A single clause can present one reason while suggesting that other considerations also exist. The speaker does not need to name every reason.

This room is spacious, among other things, so let us choose this one.

Analyze

Spaciousness is presented as one supporting point, not necessarily the only reason.

Ending a sentence with the pattern

A

Do you want to watch a movie together tonight?

Analyze
B

Sorry. I have an exam tomorrow, for one thing.

Analyze

The refusal is already clear, so the speaker can trail off after giving one reason. This is very common in conversation.

Direct reasons and neutral coordination

から presents a reason directly. By contrast, presents a reason as one item in a broader set and can leave further reasons unstated. The linking forms て・くて・で can coordinate facts more neutrally, without the same open-list feeling.

I will go to bed early today because I have an exam tomorrow.

Analyze

Here the speaker directly gives the exam as the reason.
