pronoun
all of you; everyone (present)
Archaic second-person plural pronoun, often used by samurai in formal or respectful address. Not used in modern Japanese.
「各々方、ご苦労でござる」と侍が言った。
"Everyone, thank you for your efforts," said the samurai.
時代劇では、殿様が家来に「各々方、控えよ」と呼びかける。
In period dramas, the lord calls out to his retainers, "All of you, stand by."
From 各々 (おのおの, 'each') + 方 (がた, honorific plural suffix). The exact historical development is uncertain, but it served as a respectful plural address in classical and samurai speech.
