外と様ざま大だい名みょう

outside daimyo; non-Tokugawa daimyo

Historical term for daimyo who were not hereditary vassals of the Tokugawa before the Battle of Sekigahara (1600). Often contrasted with 譜代大名 (fudai daimyo).
