足たらない

insufficient; not enough; lacking

Used when something is quantitatively or qualitatively insufficient. Often interchangeable with 足りない, but 足らない can sound slightly more colloquial or emphatic in some contexts.

• お金かねが足たらないので、買かえなかった。

  I couldn't buy it because I didn't have enough money.

• 説せつ明めいが足たらなくて、よくわからなかった。

  The explanation was insufficient, so I didn't really understand.

i-adjective

dim-witted; slow; stupid

Colloquial, often used in the phrase 頭が足らない or similar expressions to mean someone is not very bright. Can be insulting.

  That guy is dim-witted, so it's useless to say anything to him.
