ridgepole-raising ceremony
A Shinto ceremony held when the ridgepole of a new building is raised, praying for safety and prosperity. Also called 上棟式.

Compound of 上棟 (ridgepole raising) + 祭 (festival/ceremony). The exact historical derivation is uncertain, but the term is conventionally associated with Shinto building rituals.
