Used for ships, boats, or vehicles that run onto a reef, sandbank, sidewalk, or other obstacle and become stuck. Can be intransitive (the vessel runs aground) or transitive (someone runs the vessel aground).
船が浅瀬に乗り上げた。
The ship ran aground on the shallows.
車が縁石に乗り上
The car ran up onto the curb and got stuck.
