cooling-off period
A legally mandated or agreed-upon waiting period before a contract, purchase, or decision becomes final, giving the consumer or party time to reconsider. Common in consumer protection and labor contexts.
Under the cooling-off system, an eight-day cooling-off period is provided after signing the contract.
When labor-management negotiations break down, they sometimes resume after a cooling-off period.
