Technical term in artificial intelligence and logic; refers to reasoning from known facts to conclusions, as opposed to backward reasoning.
In expert systems, forward reasoning is used to derive conclusions from data.
Backward reasoning, the opposite direction: starting from a goal and working backwards to find supporting facts.
