A monostable circuit temporarily enters an unstable state upon receiving a trigger signal and returns to the stable state after a fixed time.
A bistable circuit (flip-flop) has two stable states, unlike a monostable circuit which has only one.
An astable circuit has no stable state and oscillates continuously, while a monostable circuit returns to its single stable state.
