Used when someone makes a strong, theatrical declaration or assertion, often in a public or attention-grabbing way. Figurative extension of the kabuki pose.

Original kabuki term: an actor strikes an exaggerated, dramatic pose (mie) at a climactic moment. Now also used figuratively for any theatrical posturing.

  In kabuki, the scene where an actor strikes a grand dramatic pose is one of the highlights.
