A gentle, soft smile, often with the mouth closed. Used for warm, quiet, or slightly emotional smiles.
赤ちゃんが私に微笑んだ。
The baby smiled at me.
彼女は何も言わずに、ただ微笑んでいた。
She didn't say anything, just smiled.
She smiled gently at me.
The mother smiled when she saw her child.
He smiled broadly and waved.
She said nothing and just smiled quietly.
Kana spelling; common in informal writing or when the kanji is not needed.
Search-only kanji form; not used in normal writing.
Rarely used kanji form; 微笑む is strongly preferred.
