Archaic term from Onmyōdō cosmology. Refers to a direction considered unlucky due to the presence of a deity such as Ten'ichijin; related to the practice of 方違え (katatagae) to avoid such directions.

• 陰陽道おんみょうどうでは、天てん一いち神じんのいる方ほう角がくを方かた塞ふたがりと呼よんだ。

  In Onmyōdō, the direction where Ten'ichijin resided was called katatagari (unlucky direction).

• 方かた塞ふたがりを避さけるために、方かた違たがえという儀ぎ式しきが行おこなわれた。
