Negoro lacquerware
A style of lacquerware originating from the Negoro-ji temple in Wakayama Prefecture, characterized by red lacquer over black, which wears over time to reveal the black underneath.
Negoro lacquerware trays develop more character the more you use them.
The term derives from the Negoro-ji temple (根来寺), where this style of lacquerware was originally produced.
