火鉢

A traditional Japanese heating device, typically a round or cylindrical container holding charcoal, used for warmth and sometimes for cooking.
In winter, my grandmother would grill rice cakes over the hibachi for us.
You can still find a hibachi in some old houses.
Usage patterns
- 火鉢に火を入れるto light (charcoal in) a hibachi
Since it got cold, I lit the hibachi.
- 火鉢を囲むto gather around a hibachi
The family gathered around the hibachi and talked.
- 火鉢で〈物〉を焼くto grill/roast something over a hibachi
I roasted rice cakes over the hibachi and ate them.
