do as one is told; listen to someone; take someone's advice
Used when someone follows instructions, obeys, or heeds what another person says. Often used in negative form 言うことを聞かない for disobedience.

The child doesn't listen to their parents.

I took the medicine as the doctor told me.
彼は私の言うことを聞いてくれた。
He listened to what I said (and followed my advice).
