not only; not just

Particle used to add an additional, often surprising or emphatic, element. Similar to だけでなく but often carries a stronger sense of 'not only that, but even...'. Followed by も, まで, or さえ.

  He can speak not only English but also Chinese.

• その店みせは値ね段だんが高たかいばかりか、サービスも悪わるい。

  Not only is that store expensive, but the service is also bad.
